POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Regional EducationUSA Lead Adviser is responsible for supporting the network of EducationUSA Advising Centers in Eurasia and Central Asia.  Responsibilities include programmatic visioning and leading internal efforts to streamline programming and support the highest quality delivery region-wide, mentoring other advisers in the network, coordinating cross-regional student programming such as Competitive College Club (CCC) congress.

The EducationUSA program is designed to foster international student mobility between the United States and the rest of the world.  The Regional EducationUSA Lead Adviser serves an integral role supporting and furthering EducationUSA through focused attention on advising throughout Eurasia and Central Asia.  Besides guiding delivery models for virtual and in-person outreach, promotion, EducationUSA higher education fairs, external fair participation, workload management, and curriculum development, the position is responsible for carrying out special projects that further EducationUSA in the region.  This position reports to the Director of Field Programs and works closely with the Regional Educational Advising Coordinators. 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Regional Leadership for Advisers

  • Work with advisers to develop country-specific annual strategies for an array of programming
  • Provide leadership, training and mentorship to EducationUSA advisers throughout the region
  • Support the hiring process and manage consulting contracts for advisers hired in that manner
  • Collect and share best-practices/strategies for new projects, services or programming directions
  • Work with advisers to create new, more effective advising and outreach models
  • Develop and oversee execution of special projects and capacity initiatives, such as coordinating adviser working groups focused on unified curriculum development, CRM adoption, etc.
  • In cooperation with PDS, REAC and Director of Field Programs, determine needs for EducationUSA training, resources and/or supplemental funds for special projects
  • Oversee a team of 3 region-wide specialty advisers including a US Higher Education Outreach Coordinator, a Regional Database and Marketing Manager, and a Regional Social Media Adviser (who reports to the marketing manager).

Regional Programming Coordination

  • In cooperation with advisers, develop region-wide annual strategies to complement country strategies and work, devising participation by advisers in speciality areas whereby they can share their skills and leverage efficiencies
  • Implement the region-wide CCC congress program
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of programming
  • Conduct trainings for EducationUSA advisers and the general public on specialized topics
  • Work with the D.C. office to draft proposals/budgets, monitor and report on EducationUSA related activity
  • Support the coordination of EducationUSA sponsored fairs in the region

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Fluent in English and other language/s used in the region
  • Expert knowledge of the system of higher education in the U.S., including such issues as accreditation, the admissions process, standardized testing, and financial aid, as well as of the educational system of the region and current reform issues; preference for firsthand knowledge of U.S. higher education and administration
  • Supervisory and training experience
  • Cross-cultural skills, especially in the area of communication
  • Experience in public speaking and in professional training activities
  • Ability to forge and develop connections and work cooperatively with partners and stakeholders from various sectors including higher education communities, U.S. and host country government, private companies
  • Excellent time management, strategic planning and implementation, analytical, and computer/internet skills
  • High level of attention to detail and skills in budget management
  • Bachelor’s degree related to international education or development, international relations, education, or other related area
  • At least 3 years of experience as an EducationUSA Adviser preferred.
