Accountant - Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation



Background

HELVETAS is the largest Swiss nongovernmental organization with a dual mandate for long term development and humanitarian response. It has been present in Moldova since 2018 implementing projects in the field of market systems development.

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY

The position holder works under the direction of the Team Leader. He/she will work closely with the Finance Manager of the project office in Chisinau.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare all financial transactions and cash payments of the projects
  • Prepare monthly bank and cashbox reconciliations
  • Maintain the bank file, ensuring that all bank information is properly filed and updated
  • Prepare monthly payroll based on information provided and timesheets; prepare payroll accrual entry
  • Maintain benefits accrual documentation and prepare monthly benefits accrual entries
  • Prepare the allocation journal entries (clearing of pool accounts)
  • Check and monitor the financial transactions for contracts, consultants, advisers and service providers
  • Organize and follow-up the cash planning and preparing fund requests
  • Assist with month end balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Assist with monthly consolidation to HO
  • Make sure that all supporting documentation is prepared and filed according to HELVETAS procedures.
  • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to HELVETAS and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission
  • Prepare and support all internal and external audits
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably NGO’s experience
  • University degree in accounting, finance or a relevant business field
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office programs, particularly Excel
  • Familiarity with computerized, double-entry accounting software 1C (8.3 version: NGO module)
  • Strong organizational skills as well as attention to detail
  • Fluent oral and written English skills
  • Ability to be flexible and work in pressurised working environments
