The U.S.A. Embassy in Chisinau is hiring an Economic Assistant
Duties
The incumbent is responsible for obtaining, compiling and analyzing economic information from published and unpublished sources. Prepares reports and cables on the whole spectrum of Moldovan economic developments, developing and maintaining extensive and diverse contacts at a high level in the Moldovan Government, private sector and civil society. Supports the Economic Unit Chief and Economic Officer with the representatives of the local community in these areas as well as donors covering these critical fields. Serves as the principal action staffer for all agriculture, infrastructure, environmental, health, science, technology, and cybersecurity lines of efforts, including liaising and helping the work of non-resident advisors in this area. Also serves as a Romanian/Russian-language interpreter for the Political and Economic Section and Front Office.
Qualifications and Evaluations
FOR THE EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS APPLICANTS MUST MEET EITHER OPTION 1 OR 2 TO QUALIFY.
Option 1:
EXPERIENCE: At least three years of experience in reporting on economic matters, university teaching or social science activities, such as research and analysis, journalism, public policy formulation and analysis or other work requiring gathering information from a variety of sources and compiling and analyzing results for a diverse audience for a government, non-governmental, or international organization is required.
EDUCATION: University degree in Economics, Business, International Relations, Public Policy or Political Affairs is required.
Option 2:
EXPERIENCE: At least five years of experience in reporting on economic matters, university teaching or social science activities, such as research and analysis, journalism, public policy formulation and analysis or other work requiring gathering information from a variety of sources and compiling and analyzing results for a diverse audience for a government, non-governmental, or international organization is required.
EDUCATION: At least 2 years of college or university studies (no specific field required).
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Has a thorough knowledge of Moldova’s political, economic, and social structure, institutions, business sector, historical development, and key economic figures. Has a solid understanding of basic cybersecurity policy.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: Level IV (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required. Level IV (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing Romanian is required. Level IV (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing Russian is required. (This may be tested.)
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to extract, summarize and express succinctly a wide range of materials. Ability to plan, organize, and execute complex research projects and to prepare precise and accurate factual and analytical reports. Ability to work in a team.(This may be tested.)
